At Limar Homes, we believe that building communities goes far beyond the homes and neighborhoods we develop. True community is created when all people—regardless of ability—are given the opportunity to learn, grow, express themselves, and live with dignity. That belief became even more meaningful during our recent visit to the K.E.P.E.A. “Horizontes” Day Care Center, a place where dedication, compassion, and purpose come together every single day.
Since 1997, Horizontes has played a vital role in improving the daily lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is rooted in lifelong education, personalized support, independent living, and meaningful integration into the workforce. Over the past twenty years, their impact has grown tremendously—operating a Day Care Center that now serves 104 individuals, creating the “Open Horizons–Mari Vrettos” Supported Living apartment, and advancing employment opportunities through social cooperative initiatives. Their work empowers people not only to develop new skills, but to claim their place as equal and fully valued members of society.
During our visit, our team had the joy of spending a few hours with some of the individuals at the center, joining them in one of their creative workshops. Together, we made beautifully scented handmade shampoos—products they will proudly sell during the holiday season. What may seem like a simple activity holds extraordinary meaning: it nurtures independence, builds confidence, and provides a pathway to real economic participation. Watching their enthusiasm, focus, and pride in their craft was a powerful reminder of how capable every person is when given the right environment and support.
As a development company, we often speak about responsibility—responsibility to communities, to sustainability, and to the families who trust us with their future. But this visit reminded us that responsibility also means standing beside organizations that elevate the most vulnerable members of our society. It means using our platform, resources, and presence to support initiatives that build human foundations, not just physical ones.
We left Horizontes inspired and grateful. Inspired by the remarkable individuals who show strength, creativity, and joy every day. Grateful for the educators and caregivers who dedicate their lives to making sure no one is left behind. And deeply aware that companies like ours have an obligation to contribute to this work—not out of charity, but out of respect for the inclusive society we all want to build.
